Does red orange extract (Red Orange Complex) help against skin ageing and pigmentation spots?
One small study shows a striking reduction in pigmentation spots and skin redness after 15 days of 100 mg red orange extract, but larger confirmation is still lacking. It is worth keeping an eye on, but is not yet a proven remedy.

One small study in healthy volunteers showed that 100 mg of red orange extract per day for 15 days had a measurable effect on UV damage. Skin redness after UV exposure decreased significantly, and the pigmentation of existing age spots dropped sharply: from 27% to 7% melanin content during supplementation. That is a striking reduction, but this is a single small study, so these numbers cannot simply be generalised.
In laboratory research on human skin cells, a combination of red orange extract and hyaluronic acid led to less inflammation and reduced free-radical formation after UV irradiation. This gives an indication of how the extract might work, but cell studies do not automatically translate into an effect in real people.
Hesperidin, a compound found in orange peel and also present in red orange extract, is described in a review article as a promising ingredient for the skin due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Clinical evidence in humans is largely lacking, however; for now it remains a theoretical promise.
There is therefore an interesting signal that red orange extract does something against UV-related pigmentation and skin redness, but the overall body of evidence is thin: one small human study, supplemented by cell research and a review. There are no large, long-term studies on skin ageing in a broader sense. If you find this interesting to try yourself, 100 mg per day is the dose used in the available research, but do not expect a proven result.
