“Women, just like men, go through physiological arousal cycles every night during sleep.”
Kate Tolo (Chief Marketing Officer and project participant at Blueprint) · Bryan Johnson, August 2026 · watch the episode ↗︎ · stated with confidenceThis is correct and less widely known than its male equivalent. During REM sleep, women experience increased blood flow to the genitals in the same cycles as men, several times per night. This has been established through measurements in sleep laboratories.

“Women experience significant biological changes and fluctuations every month, at every stage of life, and in virtually every organ system.”
Kate Tolo (Chief Marketing Officer and project participant at Blueprint) · Bryan Johnson, August 2026 · watch the episode ↗︎ · stated with confidenceIt is fair to say that the menstrual cycle affects far more than reproduction alone, and it is also true that women were long underrepresented in research. However, 'virtually every organ system' is a stronger claim than what has actually been measured: there is clear evidence for effects on sleep, mood, body temperature and immune responses, but for many other organs the question simply has not been studied. The point is valid, but its scope has been overstated.
