What a healthy gut flora does for the rest of you

A well-nourished microbiome has effects that reach well beyond digestion. There is evidence that gut bacteria help regulate your appetite and sense of fullness through hormones and nerve signals, though the exact scale of that effect in humans is still uncertain. Eating more fibre is the best-supported way to nudge that system in the right direction.
